Not long ago, a young person whom I have been training, who is a Business Development Manager for one of my clients asked me, “Is there a common thread for successful people that you have seen over your many years in business that is not taught today?”. I can honestly say, I was so impressed with this 29 year old who asked such a profound question. I sometimes think we older folks can overlook how talented and deep many of our young people really are. My answer was easy to give. “Kindness”, I replied. Kind people listen first, truly want to understand the needs of all they come in contact with so they can help them succeed (employees, clients, and generally anyone they interact with). It always comes back. Pictured here is retired Mayor Gary Peterson from Columbia Heights Minnesota presenting the 2015 City Of Peace Awards (www.cityofpeaceawards.org) to people in his community who served so many to build trust and empower others in the Community. Gary led his city with a lot of kindness. The results of what he accomplished over 20+ years in public service is truly remarkable. A little kindness goes a long way. It feels good too! I also believe it comes back times 10! But, who’s counting?
